📒 Compile Your Seasonal Work
Whether you prefer a structured approach to gardening or enjoy a more spontaneous style, keeping a gardening and observation journal will serve as a valuable reference for the following season. This practice will help you avoid repeating mistakes and allow you to revisit successful recipes for sowing and planting. Grab a notebook and some pencils, and let’s get started!
📝 List Your Favorite Vegetables and Plants
In your journal, compile a list of local varieties you plan to grow this year—those that delight your family and yourself, and whose colors or scents captivate you. You’ll find even more joy in tending to your garden and tracking their growth!
What Plants Thrive in Your Region?

🌿 Create a Profile for Each Plant
For each variety, document the dates for sowing, planting, flowering, and harvesting, along with their requirements for sunlight, watering, and fertilization, as well as any necessary maintenance tasks.
Use this profile as a reference. Keep in mind that each variety has unique characteristics and will thrive or struggle based on your soil and the unpredictable nature of the weather!
What Are the Specifics of Your Plant?

✏️ Sketch Your Planting Layouts Throughout the Seasons
On a page, outline the location of each family of vegetables to consider crop rotation (if you’re not familiar with this concept, we’ll explain it below) and to designate areas for fallow (uncultivated) land for the upcoming season.
This strategy will help prevent diseases and pests while allowing the soil to regenerate between similar crops.
How to Implement Crop Rotation?
For example, in a four-year rotation, divide your plot into four planting areas or beds. Then, plant together varieties with similar nutrient needs: one bed = one need!
🔸1. Very nutrient-hungry 🔸2. Moderately hungry 🔸3. Low nutrient needs 🔸4. Very nutrient-hungry again, for a total of four beds
Each new year, modify your garden plan to facilitate rotation: replace the nutrient-hungry varieties with moderately hungry ones, which will in turn be swapped with low nutrient needs, and so forth! Feel free to divide your plot into as many planting areas or vegetable beds as you like: just remember to document everything for clarity! 😉
