The rose of Loiret, a symbol of the region along the Loire River, has flourished for over two centuries. This traditional cultivation stems from the expertise of local nurseries, which began to emerge in the 16th century, with serious rose production taking off by the late 18th century (source: Voltage).

🗓️ When is the Best Time to Visit the Rose Route?

The peak blooming season runs from late May to the end of June, marking the ideal time to explore the Rose Route. The rose season continues throughout the summer and into mid-October, with a final flourish in September.

Tourism Loiret offers exciting rewards for the most adventurous travelers based on the number of sites visited, including souvenirs, culinary or cosmetic products made from rose petals, rose plants to take home, themed menus at restaurants, or even a night for two in a local guesthouse. This initiative promotes a more authentic and slower form of local tourism!

Among the 17 natural and cultural sites featured, here are some highlights that have been "tested and approved":

🌹 The Moraille Rose Garden in Pithiviers-le-Vieil: Admire the creations of renowned rosarian André Eve and take part in various activities to experience different natural and creative skills.

🌹 Château de Chamerolles in Chilleurs-aux-Bois: Dive into the history of rose-derived perfumes dating back to the Renaissance while strolling through the classic French garden.

🌹 Yèvre-le-Châtel: Recognized as one of France's Most Beautiful Villages and a Remarkable Garden; wander through its picturesque streets, which house a collection of 400 roses and 150 medicinal or aromatic plants arranged in traditional medieval squares.

🌹 The Arboretum des Grandes Bruyères in Ingrannes: Contrary to what its name suggests, this Remarkable Garden features an astonishing variety of trees, undergrowth plants, and flowers that bloom throughout the seasons, including stunning roses!

📍 A Timeless Stop: The Roquelin Gardens in Meung-sur-Loire (45)

With 450 varieties of old roses, the Roquelin Gardens, located at the foot of an ancient Loiret farm, have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for a quarter of a century.

This rose garden offers a sensory journey: a spectrum of rose hues, a collection of sweet fragrances, and an immersion in the sounds of nature. Visitors can also take home their favorite plants from the nursery or a jar of homemade jam!

Join us all summer at the Roquelin Gardens in Meung-sur-Loire (45) and during special events such as the Arts & Well-Being Festival at the gardens in late June or a candlelit evening stroll in early August. The garden can also be reserved for wedding photos at an accessible rate!

🗳️ International Rose Competition: Cast Your Vote for Your Favorite Variety!

Vote now until July for your favorite variety from a stunning selection displayed along the paths of the Jardin des Plantes d’Orléans. At the end of this international competition, a public prize will be awarded to the winning florist by the local association "Les Amis des Roses Orléanaises," while a prize will also be given to the participant whose vote aligns closest with the official jury's choice. Results will be announced in September!
