Winter at the Garden of Five Senses

Le Jardin des Cinq Sens - Yvoire

A Lively Winter at the Garden of Five Senses ❄️🌱

Despite being closed to the public until April 10, 2026, the Garden of Five Senses remains vibrant throughout the winter months. This season is an opportune time to:

  • prepare for the upcoming growing season,
  • care for the plants,
  • process harvests,
  • experiment with future projects.

Harvest and Transformation: Kiwis and Apple Juice

Exceptional Kiwi Harvest

This year, the garden achieved a remarkable harvest of approximately 30 kg of kiwis, setting a new record.

Homemade Apple Juice Available in Store

Apples harvested from the garden's espaliered trees have been transformed into artisanal apple juice by La Ferme Des Grands Champs. These bottles will be available for purchase when the store opens in April 2026.

Focus on Roses 🌹

The gardeners have received bare-root ‘Blanc Double de Coubert’ roses, a notable variety from the garden. After trimming the roots and branches, each rose is potted to ensure a calm winter before they are sold in spring.

Protecting Plants During Winter 🌬

To safeguard delicate plants:

  • some are placed in a greenhouse,
  • others are covered with mulch or frost protection.

Repotting to Revitalize Plants 🪴

Potted plants have received a fresh boost:

  • roots have been pruned or scratched,
  • some old potting soil has been partially replaced,
  • the root ball has been aerated to promote growth.

Experimental Garden 🌱

The experimental garden, typically closed to the public, serves as a conservatory and testing ground. This winter, the team has:

  • designed and installed a new flower bed,
  • organized spaces for upcoming workshops and projects,
  • continued experiments and enhancements to enrich the upcoming season.
