Taking advantage of the recent Fallas festival, today I take you to visit a garden in the capital of Turia.
As I mention in the title of this entry, the garden of the University of Valencia has been collecting plants since ancient times (15th or 14th century), initially as a collection or orchard to cultivate medicinal plants and train future doctors and pharmacists, adapting new species from other parts of the planet that could potentially be cultivated in the region, or continuing this educational work with successive groups of students and more recently as a recreational space.
The garden itself has not remained in one location; it has changed its location according to the course of events. Today, this garden is located near the Quart Towers. Very close to the old riverbed of the Turia, which has now become a large park to prevent the recurrence of past floods. Perhaps one of the garden's most splendid periods was in the 19th century when tropical species collections were improved, and iron and glass arboretums and greenhouses were incorporated.
