This spring, I received an incredible gift from Dutch-bulbs, a mini collection of beautiful Hippeastrum and Lilium, which have become the stars of late spring and summer on the terrace. Large bulbs with dozens of long-lasting flowers, and I’m excited to show you the array of beauties that have been brightening up the balcony for about a month now. If you want to collect them too, I’m sharing my discount code Francesco for 10% off. The Hippeastrum (Central America) are often confused with Amaryllis (African), and I’m sharing the article where I explain the difference. The hybrids in the collection are H. Aquaro, H. Harlequin, H. Picasso, H. Rozetta, H. Supernova, and H. Yellow Crown. Are you ready for a new collection?

Curiosities and Care Tips for Hippeastrum vittatum

One very important thing for these plants to thrive and bloom is that they need a true dormancy period of about two to three months. When the first shoots of Hippeastrum begin to appear, increase watering to keep the soil moist. Fertilizing should also start every 15 days using a balanced liquid fertilizer with equal parts nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. If Hippeastrum are planted outdoors, once the season is over, the bulbs can be dug up and stored to be replanted the following spring. They should be kept in dark, dry places at temperatures around 5°C in peat. These bulbs will produce more abundant blooms compared to those left in the ground, as this way, they will have a true dormancy period, which is crucial for this plant to thrive and bloom at its best. Have a great day, Francesco Diliddo.
